    Stress, Anxiety and Burnout

With busy work-life responsibilities, we all experience various levels of stress on a regularly basis. Typically, the cause of this stress can be easily identified, such as from meeting a deadline at work to worries about finances to caring for young children. But what happens when that stress progresses to an unmanageable level? Or when the source of your stress is unknown? Or when that stress starts impacting your job performance?

The line between stress and anxiety can be hard to determine, but both can ultimately lead to burnout. As demonstrated with the Great Resignation, many employees are leaving the workplace to escape the burnout and find greater work-life balance. As an employer, it is important to recognize and adapt your workplace to identify the signs of stress, anxiety and burnout and discover ways to mediate them to retain a healthy workforce.

During this Master Class webinar, employers and human resources professional will learn more about the differences between stress and anxiety, how anxiety can be treated, and the resources available to you to help minimize burnout.

    A Conversation on Health Equity

Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to live a healthy life regardless of their background or circumstance. The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the magnitude of inequities throughout various communities within the U.S. and thrusted terms like health equity, health disparities and social determinants of health into the spotlight, creating an opportunity for national discussion. But what do these terms mean and how are they interconnected?

During this Master Class webinar, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan experts Bridget Hurd and Michael Kobernick, MD, will take a closer look at defining these terms, the obstacles that exist to achieving equitable health as well as discuss how social determinants impacts health outcomes. We will also discuss actions you can take to address health equity in your workplace and efforts Blue Cross is taking to make meaningful and measurable progress to improve health and health care disparities and address social determinants of health.

Connecting the Dots - The Link Between Oral and Vision Health to Overall Well-Being

When you think of promoting your employees’ wellness, what comes to mind? Pedometers for walking programs. Healthy snacks in the breakroom. Online meditation courses. And toothbrushes? While employers strive to better understand and improve their employees’ health, many are missing an important part their employees’ health story- oral and vision health.

Oral and vision well-being is often described as the window to a person’s overall health. The eyes, mouth, teeth and gums can offer clues to other conditions and ailments in the body. And maintaining good oral and vision health can prevent tooth decay and loss, vision impairments, and help deter more serious issues such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

During this one-hour Master Class webinar, Lisa Knowles, DDS, dental director, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Paul Kimbro, OD, Henry Ford Health System, will discuss the importance of oral and vision health and its connection to overall well-being. They’ll also address the fallout of COVID-19 that has included lapses of dental and vision care. This session will help employers understand the need and full value of specialty benefits, focusing on dental and vision coverage as part of their organization’s health plan. Attendees will also receive tools and resources to help encourage and implement better oral and vision health in the workplace.

Why Behavioral Health Matters - A Look at Integrative Care

Depression. Anxiety. Addiction. Mental health. Co-morbidities. What does it all mean? What is behavioral health and why does it matter to you, your business and your employees?

Behavioral health includes a spectrum of mental and emotional issues or disorders. And the link between behavioral health and physical health is an important one. Someone who suffers from one or more chronic diseases is likely to be depressed. Depression — or any other behavioral health issue — can negatively affect physical health. What’s more, medical costs increase significantly when a person has a chronic condition, such as diabetes or heart disease, in conjunction with a behavioral health issue. Health plan data indicates that an individual with both a behavioral health disorder, such as depression, and a chronic condition can result in double the cost of treatment and care than someone without a behavioral health disorder.

During this one-hour Master Class webinar, William Beecroft, MD, and Jonathan Henry, MD, will share their expertise on behavioral health, discuss how behavioral and physical health are related and how integrating both modalities of care can be more effective for individuals. HR professionals will gain a better understanding of the toll behavioral health issues can have on their business and what tools they can use to help their employees who may be suffering with behavioral health issues.
